I want a puppy

What does adopting a puppy entail?

We've all heard or said that a pet is a really big commitment.  It is true, even though it isn't what we want to hear, when we pick up that darling pup and smell it's sweet puppy breath and look into it's eyes.

After you've picked your favorite, signed the contract, paid for it and taken it home there are some things you'll want to know.

Many of the following is reinforced in "Be the Pack Leader" by Cesar Millan (which is included in the puppy care package).
Your puppy will stay a puppy in energy and demeanor for the first two to three years of its life.  As the "alpha" you will need to be consistent and fair so that your puppy understands the rules of your pack.  If you let a puppy chew on a shoe, clothing, or your finger it isn't very nice to discipline it for biting or chewing.

Dogs need toys, attention, structure, exercise, affection, and healthy food.  Decide on your boundaries before you bring your dog home.  Discuss it with everyone in the house and teach them things similar to calm assertive energy and "Tsssst" (Cesar Millan).

A puppy is really a small dog who will grow up and stay grown up for the 12-18 years after the 2 puppy years.  When you fall in love with that puppy take a good look at his or her parents and make sure that a dog that size and demeanor is what you are really looking for.  Puppies grow up, so keep that in mind when you decide to purchase your dog. Expect your dog to mellow around age 3.

Most breeders, including us, require you to return a puppy to us if you absolutely can no longer keep your dog.  We hope that you make the investment to get a puppy in the most logical and long term sense.  We know that tragedy happens on rare occasions and we will take the time to find your best friend a good home.  Our five year health guarantee is only valid with the original purchaser in order to encourage you to bring your puppy back and be a shelter free individual.

Puppies require human interaction to develop.  Touch, eye contact, talking are all part of become a well adjusted and loved pup.  We are "small" breeders so that we have the time to love and cuddle each puppy daily.  We keep the puppies area clean, give them baths, feed them the most nutrient dense food we can find, groom and pet them, and play oh so much!

The puppies are around gentle children.  In fact, we love to have people come and love the puppies because they are benefited by the social aspect of people.

Fairlight and Chessie are so excited when the puppies are at the playful stage.  They no longer are feeding them so the Dam gets a bunch of little play mates.  It is so much fun to watch as the Dam teaches them!

The puppies we breed are accustomed to grooming and are absolutley docile!  One or two will be a little whiney around the face; other than that they stand there and allow for cleaner cuts.  It is amazing to see them sit better than our adult dogs.

The puppies are in full swing with potty training.  As long as you are an attentive owner they are good about where to go potty.  The first week at a new house is the morst important time to re-train them. You'll want to immediately show them the door they are to go to in order to go potty and then take them out to the area you want them to go in. Do not give them treats to go potty, it may distract them and they'll finish inside the house.
