Schnauzer Paradise: Growth charts

Dam: Chesapeake Baybee is 9.15.5 lbs (she is currently nursing and has lost the weight the vet recommended.)

Sire: Eclipse Double Fudge is 12 lbs

Both have rare coloring with Chessie being white chocolate and Eclipse having black, white and chocolate all in his delicious mane. Sometimes he looks like a black lion.

Their litter has been weighed and they are teeny tiny! We are using the same scale that we used for the last litter we had and at the same time of day every week. They are at 5 weeks and are consistently showing that they are going to maintain their growth. We have priced them according to their projected adult weight. These puppies are measuring 6-10 lbs as adults. You can expect a very healthy little best friend!

Realize that if the puppies aren't de-wormed fairly often they'll have lower weights that aren't accurate for their permanent sizing. Also, if the puppies aren't getting proper nutrition their size will skyrocket the moment they are on decent food. My MIL purchased a toy mini schnauzers from a puppy mill (we know that now) in Idaho that uses Atta Boy exclusively. This breeder defends Atta Boy to her last breath; but it is terrible. If a breeder isn't giving a high quality food to the puppies they have no idea what final weights will be. Our growth charts are later in this post and based upon high nutrient dense foods.

As a consumer? Be aware breeders will sometimes lie to try to look better.
As a breeder? Be honest. If you want loyal lifers who send new people to you do your best to give them the most accurate information as possible. If you don't know, tell them. Honesty and transparency are important to consumers.

Why do puppies get worms and how do I treat it?

Puppies like to stick their noses in everything. How does this or that smell? What is it made of? What did they eat? What is their rank? Just like dogs they are learning to read rear ends (which is an important dog practice that quickly defines a relationship). Naturally we recommend you keep your dog away from a strange dog's until they are at least 12 weeks old and from strange dog's feces (because that is how dogs get rabies). Still, in the back yard it's pretty normal. Because of this unfortunate dog trait worms tend to be a companion if not treated. We've got chickens, so we just expect to treat the puppies for worms about once a week.

Diotomaceous Earth is a natural de-wormer and doesn't do anything to the puppy except take the worms intestines and rip them apart. IMPORTANT! (You can go to many websites and learn how much to apply to your dog's food.) Remember that if it gets in lungs it can puncture alveoli so keep it moist with the food and preferably serve it with lipids (fats) for best results.

Here's their current sizing in ounces and the estimate for their size may change. The pricing is due to their estimate. If you pay a deposit your price will never go up; but it may go down if their growth chart changes for a slightly larger size. Sorry, we missed 9 weeks. I got busy now that summer is upon us.

Sometimes we missed the exact day of the week; but at least you've got sizing. It's more than many breeders do. Be aware these sizes are off of a nutrient dense food, hydration, and fairly consistent de-worming. Breeders can fake size by not deworming and giving cheap foods that don't give adequate nutrition.

It is important to be aware of parents full weight in to have an idea of how small your puppy will turn out as an adult. Very small dogs have the greatest amount of growth between birth and 11 weeks of age. Some breeders will tell you that your puppy is full grown at 6 months; though the majority of growth is completed at 16 weeks your schnauzer will be fully grown around 12 months because they are a small breed.

Naturally every puppy is different just like every child and we see a wide variety in a single litter. As a breeder it is difficult to guarantee that your puppy is going to stay small especially with such variation in their parents. However you can consistently find that long time breeders have a pretty good idea of how big a dog is going to be and some of those breeders have shared their tips with us.

We disregard birth weight and at about 5 weeks adult size is more firm due to sizing. It becomes more clear as the puppy reaches eight weeks in age and more so at 12 weeks.

Teacup's require more breeder attention to make sure they are healthy. If your puppy is growing more slowly and appears to be a Teacup size or an extremely small Toy we reserve the right to keep him/her longer. This way we can better ensure his/her health due to the correct development. You want a healthy dog so you also must be willing to wait until they have the certificate of health.
